Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) 39th Annual
Legislative Conference
METROPOLITAN SATURDAY ACADEMY
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
The Honorable Corrine Brown, 3rd District of Florida, hosted an issue forum entitled "The Underground
Railroad: Connections to Freedom and Science," during the 39th Annual Legislative Conference of the
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation on September 24, 2009 in Washington, DC.  Youth and
leadership of the Metropolitan Saturday Academy were strategic partners and attendees.

As an affiliate of the National Alliance of Faith and Justice (NAFJ), Metropolitan Saturday Academy strongly
promoted the launch of the Learn and Serve National Challenge and alignment with the Serve America Act
in mobilizing retired and active professionals from NASA as volunteers with youth to promote science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The session entitled "The Underground Railroad:
Connections to Freedom and Science," hosted by the Honorable Corrine Brown, 39th District of Florida,
provided an opportunity for student voice and encouraged the study of history and civic education.
