The Metropolitan Saturday Academy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) scientific and educational enrichment
program designed to create an interest in science and technology.
Over 12 years ago the Metropolitan Saturday Academy vision was created – inspiring a new
generation of scientists, engineers, doctors, computer analysts, physicists, chemists, and
mathematicians.
The Metropolitan Saturday Academy (MSA) introduces middle and high school students to the
wonders and challenges of outer space and beyond including: visits to National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA) Centers to launch model rockets, attendance at global warming
demonstrations at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and staring at stars at the National Air
and Space Museum (NASM) planetarium.
MSA students spend their Saturdays at NASM watching To Fly in the Langley Theater, being
mesmerized by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American
Museum of Natural History in New York, being mentored by NASA engineers, and supported by a
team of life-long MSA mentors. These students learn critical thinking skills, and develop analytical,
problem-solving, communication and presentation skills. Some receive scholarships --- and most of
all they develop into self-confident leaders.
If you would like to support a student who has hopes of becoming a scientist, your tax deductible
donation would help to provide assistance and help them to not only “reach for the stars” but
achieve their dreams and become contributing members of our society.
